On Valentine’s Day, some of us inevitably find ourselves single. Some people complain and say it sucks to be single on Valentine’s Day. They feel lonely, because no special guy or girl loves them.
As Christians, we can sometimes share the same attitude and wish we had that special someone to share Valentine’s Day with. I used to have this attitude, and I used to think ‘God really does not have anyone special for me and I’m going to be lonely forever’. After I turned 20, my attitude changed: I realised it’s all about being patient, serving God and doing what he has planned for me as long as I am still single. I still sometimes struggle with the waiting part, but I know that something good is going to come out of it all. Now is a great time to serve God the best I can, to strengthen my relationship with him, and the relationships I have with my family and friends. Being single is a blessing too, as I can see now.
While I was a teenager, I saw singleness as a bad thing. Now, there is one thing I know for sure: even though I have not yet found the man I am supposed to spend my life with – and get married to – I know that God will always love me, no matter what. Added to that, I have an amazing family and amazing friends who love me.
I’ll leave you with my favourite verse for Valentine’s Day:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.” (Jer. 31:3)
