#BeroeanLikes: In the Stillness – Eira Palmer

In The Stillness

In the stillness, of the moonlight
When my thoughts run deep
You know all things, that I'm thinking as I fall asleep.
When I wake up, to a brand new day
You're here with me, hearing all I say

In the morning, in the evening
I'm surrounded by your love
In the darkness, while I'm sleeping
You are watching from above

Lord you know me, and you loved me
Before I took a breath
You decided in your wisdom
On my birth and death
You planned forgiveness
Through your precious son
Gave him freely, and my heart was won

In the morning, in the evening
I'm surrounded by your love
In the darkness, while I'm sleeping
You are watching from above

We used to sing this song at Welsh camp as the final song before bedtime. It was very comforting to have this song in mind when we went to bed in a bug ridden tent at night. In Psalm 139 David says, “Even the darkness is not dark to you”, so even as we are sleeping surrounded in darkness we can know the assurance that the God who knows all things cares for us. He is powerful and will help us overcome our fears in life.

This song also highlights the plans of God. Matthew 10:26-31 teaches us not to be afraid of things in this world, but to trust God who cares even for the smallest sparrow, and likewise the song reminds us of his design for us, our lives and the forgiveness that can be ours through Christ. Even though the night can sometimes seem suffocatingly still, God promises that it will pass and become bright as day. He gave his son and won our hearts, when we trust in him he will carry us home.
